According to Wikipedia, friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. Although there are many forms of friendship– some of which may vary from place to place – certain characteristics are present in many types of such bonds.
Such characteristics include affection, kindness, love, virtue, sympathy, empathy, honesty, altruism, loyalty, generosity, forgiveness, mutual understanding and compassion, enjoyment of each other’s company, trust, and the ability to be oneself, express one’s feelings to others, and make mistakes without fear of judgment from the friend.
Academics say that friendship is an essential aspect of relationship-building skills. And I would say: it is an essential aspect of life.
Today, since it is National Friendship’s Day, I would like to thank all of my friends that have been supporting me to face lupus every day since my diagnosis. Between fatigue, pain, flares, diet restrictions, doctor’s appointments, Covid-19 prevention measures, quarantine, etc., you, my friends, have been the reason I was able to smile during these last couple of years.
And I am talking about all my friends, including my family. I wouldn’t have the power to face lupus, and much other life’s difficulties, if it wasn’t for you. I couldn’t thank you enough for the emotional support I receive every day, if not from one friend, from another.
Thank you so much, and let’s hope we can all meet very soon.0 Like
